7.4.22 Covid update
Below is a list of the recognised Covid-19 symptoms and guidance for action:
Children and young people aged 18 and under can get coronavirus (COVID-19), but it’s usually a mild illness and most get better in a few days.
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:
- a high temperature or shivering (chills) – a high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
- shortness of breath
- feeling tired or exhausted
- an aching body
- a headache
- a sore throat
- a blocked or runny nose
- loss of appetite
- diarrhoea
- feeling sick or being sick
The symptoms are very similar to symptoms of other illnesses, such as colds and flu.
What to do if your child has symptoms
Your child should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people if they have symptoms of COVID-19 and they either:
- have a high temperature
- do not feel well enough to go to school, college or childcare, or do their normal activities
They can go back to school, college or childcare when they feel better or do not have a high temperature.
If your child has mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat or mild cough, and they feel well enough, they can go to school, college or childcare.
Encourage your child to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when they cough or sneeze, and to wash their hands after using or throwing away tissues.
Most children who are unwell will recover in a few days with rest and plenty of fluids
How do I access vaccinations for my child?
Our local vaccination team have asked us to share the information below about COVID-19 vaccinations for 5 to 11 year olds:
The NHS is now offering COVID-19 vaccines to children aged 5 to 11 years. Appointments are being held in dedicated children’s clinics across our area and can be booked online via the National Booking Service or by calling 119. Some walk-in clinics are also available and details of these, along with information about all the vaccination options in our area, can be found at www.grabajab.net.
Children’s clinics are being run by GPs, community pharmacies and the Vaccination Centre @ UWE Bristol, where themed child-friendly pods have been created to make the Centre feel welcoming for young children.
Younger children receive a lower (paediatric) vaccine dose. More information about the vaccination and the effects of COVID-19 in young children can be found here.
We would be grateful if you would you share this information on any school WhatsApp groups you are in, to help inform as many parents/carers as possible.
Q. If my child is required to self-isolate how can I access home learning?
A. Links to plans used in school will be posted on the class blogs on the website by the start of each week. Teachers will contact you to speak to your child in the first week, then be available through email. If you have any urgent queries, please email teaching staff directly via the class email address (class and number followed by @henleaze-inf.bristol.sch.uk e.g. class1@henleaze-inf.bristol.sch.uk). Teachers are working to their full timetables, so may not be able to respond within a short time-scale.

Q. Will there be e further opportunity for a stay and play if my child missed their opportunity due to a requirement to self-isolate?
A. We do not have capacity to add further dates and cannot mix new children with our current cohort. Please contact the school office for times of any guided tours that you may be able to join, alternatively join the FHIS family BBQ on Tuesday 20th July.
Q. What are the adaptations to the curriculum in light of school closures?

Q. Will there be support for free school meal pupils who are self-isolating or during school holidays?
A. Vouchers for use during the Easter holidays funded by BCC will be sent to eligible parents in the w/c 29.3.22.
Q. How can I access my child’s credentials for Google Classroom so that they can join Google Meets (for those not attending school) and submit learning (any children who are not in school full-time)
A. Follow the link here entering your child’s registered name and their date of birth without spaces or symbols e.g. Samuel Smith 010105
Q. How do I submit learning via Google classroom?
A. The simplest way is to download the free Google Classroom app to your smartphone. Key Tasks are set as assignments for your child. These need to be ‘turned in’ typically by uploading photographs (or edited worksheets if the assignment requires) to your child’s Google Classroom.
Q. How can I find out when my child’s Google Meet is scheduled
A. Log into their meeting schedule at meet.google here
Q. Is Breakfast Club available?
A. Yes. Places are limited and must be booked and paid for in advance.

Q. Is there availability at Schools Out Henleaze ?
Schools Out Henleaze is open with Infants on the Infant site and Juniors on the Junior site and will run during school holidays. Please book through the School’s Out website https://www.schoolsouthenleaze.co.uk/
Q. Why are the G Suite credentials not recognised when trying to access Google Classroom?
A. We are aware that some families are experiencing difficulties. When retrieving children’s credentials for Google Classroom:
1) Make sure the name you give is the one you registered with school (not the known as name) e.g. Thomas not Tommy
2) Don’t use / or . between the date of birth e.g. 080116
3) Contact the school via email if you still doesn’t work (email henleazei@bristol-schools.uk).
